Keyworth Parish Council Serving the village of Keyworth

The Environment Group of the Keyworth Village Plan is in the process of buying some land off Wolds Lane to the south of Keyworth for development as a Pocket Country Park.

The great news is that we are reasonably confident of getting grants to enable us to proceed with the purchase.

We need to establish a group that will administer the funds and manage the park in the long term. The Inaugural Meeting of the group is to be held in the Village Hall on 29th November at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome - indeed we want as many people as possible to attend. At the Village Show in July 2010, when we announced our plans and guaged the response, hundreds of people were supportive.

There will be a presentation of what the land is, where it is and where the group is at now in terms of acquiring the land. Then the business of the evening will be to agree the constitution (a draft copy is on this website) and elect a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee that will care for the site.

If you feel this is something you would like to be involved in or you'd like to know more, please put your name forward. Email or phone Neil Pinder on neil.pinder@ntlworld.com / 0115 9144896.

The Environment Group is: Mike Reid, Diane Wright, Graham Tinsley, Helene Hunt, Richard Annells, Neil Pinder

Second Heritage Plaque On Display

As many residents will be aware, a second heritage plaque has appeared in the village centre. The plaque itself has been funded jointly by Keyworth Parish Council and the Rotary Club of Keyworth and Ruddington, with the research, text and illustrations having been produced by interested volunteers. The installation of the plaque has been funded and carried out by Notts County Council as part of their ‘Building Better Communities’ initiative. The first plaque concentrated its information on historical aspects of the Square, while this second one, sited at the end of Main Street near the corner with Selby Lane, provides information on sites of historical interest along Main Street.

The official unveiling of this second heritage plaque took place on Saturday afternoon, 16th October at 3 pm. with a brief reception afterwards in the Centenary lounge.

20.9.10

The Parish Council's Planning committee met on September 6th to formally consider the plans for a Tesco store on Selby Lane. After due discussion, it was unanimously agreed that the committee should object to the plans. The committee's objections were duly endorsed by Full Council at a meeting on September 20th. The Borough Council has been advised accordingly.

The results of the survey carried out by the Parish Council were as follows:

Votes in favour: 224
Votes against: 631
Undecided: 24
Total votes cast: 879

The Council recognises that a survey such as this has its shortcomings, but nevertheless believes that it was a useful way of gauging public opinion, and would like to thank everyone who participated

Anyone who has strong views for or against the proposals, and has not done so already, is urged, in addition to any other letters written or petitions signed, to write without delay [quoting application number 10/01333/OUT] to:

Development Control Manager, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 5FE.

Email: developmentcontrol@rushcliffe.gov.uk

Individual letters are likely carry much more weight than, for example, a petition with lots of signatures.

Please keep any eye on this page for news of any further developments. For previous items relating to the Tesco proposals, click on the following link:

The Parish Council regrets that it cannot guarantee to respond individually to letters, emails or survey forms, but please rest assured that all comments received will be taken into account.

UPDATE - Weds 14 Jan 09.00

Keyworth Parish Council contacted the Highways Department's Gamston at 7.50am today regarding the state of the roads in Keyworth. We were informed that Keyworth has had more attention than other villages in the area, as it seems to suffer worst weather conditions. Teams were out yesterday and will be out again today. They are doing their best with what they have got and within government guidelines. We were told that as much as possible is being done.

EARLIER NEWS

Nottinghamshire County Council (which is responsible for gritting roads in the county other than motorways and trunk roads) has announced that the salt situation is now desperate and that they expect to run out of supplies very soon.

The national distribution of salt is now being controlled by the Government during the current prolonged bout of severe weather, and efforts are being made to ensure a fair distribution throughout the country.

Consequently Nottinghamshire (along with some other local authorities) has decided to grit only A and B roads from now on, until further supplies of salt are secured.

As far as Keyworth residents are concerned, this means that no roads in, to, from and around Keyworth will be gritted. Only the A60 and A606 (a mile from the village) will be treated. So there is a very real danger of being cut off.

Please be aware of this very serious situation and do not drive unless you have to.

The Highways Agency is continuing to grit motorways and trunk roads, including the A46, A52 and A453.

Further up-to-date information can be obtained from www.nottscc.gov.uk, from where a gritting map of A and B roads can be downloaded.

Silver Award for Keyworth in Bloom Awards

Keyworth has collected a scattering of Silver Awards in this year's Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom Awards.

Having gained a bronze award, at its first attempt in the competition last year, Keyworth collected its first Silver award from the judges in the 'town' category and a special judges award for its well designed and managed town cemetery.

A silver gilt award goes to Joyces, the Plumtree Road hairdresser in the village. This is a very narrow miss on a gold award!

Silver awards also went to Crossdale Drive Primary School and Keyworth Primary and Nursery School for their entries into the School Garden competition.

Councillor David Roos, who has pioneered our entries into the competition, helped by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, collected the award certificates at a regional ceremony in Cleethorpes.
