Subject: Bank closure Keyworth

Sir/Madam

I am Chairman of Keyworth Parish Council, Nottinghamshire.

I am writing on behalf of the Council and residents of Keyworth to object most strongly to your 'proposed' closure of your branch in Keyworth. As you are no doubt aware, it is the only bank left in our village and as such provides a valuable service for local (and not so local) residents, particularly to those who are unable to travel or do not have access to computer banking. Now, I know in this day and age service is not a recognised word in the banking world, when you now refer to yourselves as retail outlets interested in only selling your products; however, in most people's opinion, a service is what you should provide. In the case of Keyworth, with a large population and plans for over 250 new houses in the near future, I would have thought the bank would have wanted to keep a presence to increase its business.

It would have been nice to have been consulted on the closure beforehand and a chance given to work out any possible deal to enable the bank to remain open.

Having suffered the closure of our local HSBC bank, I realise I am probably banging my head against a brick wall, as the decision has no doubt been irrevocably made, banks no longer see themselves as part of the local community and therefore local feelings and needs no longer come into banking life unless, of course, there is mega money to be made.

regards... Tony Grice
