Keyworth Parish Council Serving the village of Keyworth

Cllr Geoff Baker

My family moved in to Keyworth when I was 4 and I made many lifelong friends at Crossdale (Drive!) Primary School and then South Wolds. Enjoyed playing sport at the village since a young age having been a member of the Table Tennis, Tennis, Golf (Stanton), Football and Cricket clubs at some point. Went away to study in Manchester but came back to play cricket and began getting involved in getting sponsors for the cricket club and volunteering during that time. Moved to London for work in 1993, and ended up also working and part time living in Holland, Belgium and the USA during that a corporate career. Started my own business in 2009/10, and decided to expand the team back in Nottingham through investment in 2013.

London is fantastic but so transient. People are only seemingly ever 'passing through', the sense of community and continuity in our village completely contrasts that. No football team I ever played for was as special as Keyworth United and no cricket club I ever played for was even close to Keyworth Cricket Club. Since coming 'home' I have been part of a fantastic team that has taken the cricket club from 30 to over 400 members over the last decade, and it has been a privilege to serve as Chairman since 2014. Hope to help engage and energise the passion for our community where I can and where it helps in this role.
